I have used them for years now too, and no they don't take any money they shouldn't do. If you wish to add anything like printing an album or order a birth cert etc, then you have to initiate that.
In fact, if you do have a hiccup that is their fault they do sometimes compensate you by giving you a free month. i.e. when they no longer took maestro debit cards.

It is well worth the money, and you can meet people online through doing your tree with them, that you never even knew who are related to you. I have.

You will become addicted, I can assure you.

I've used it for a year and they haven't charged me anything extra for any service. However, if I want to use that DNA thingy, I have to pay extra for that.

Yes its worth every penny in my opinion and no they don't take any more money than the stated amount for subscription. I have the world deluxe package that means I have access to all the documents they have, it's amazing.

yes well worth the money, think what it could cost you to do the research without such a great website

It is worth it if you are going to do a lot of research, possibly on several different names.
They have never taken extra money from me, but if you start to download stuff relating to foreign countries you will need to pay for it.
There are a few drawbacks - the Index was compiled by Americans who are not familiar with English place names and old style hand-writing and this leads to some magnificent mis-spellings and guesses!
i.e. one family indexed as DUTTON was actually POTTER and there are probably hundreds of similar errors with names and place names, sometimes replaced with names that Americans are more familiar with. London for Luton etc.
Another thing that rankles with me is that they ask you to upload your tree to their World Tree site, but if you read the small print, it then becomes their property! No WAY!
There are alternative sites out there, some of which work on a "buy credits" basis and these might be more suitable if you are not doing full time research.

no just pay and search.
