The way you figure it out is to show both people's lines up to a common ancestor. In this case, the common ancestor would be your 3rd Great Grandparents (they are the parents of BOTH your 2nd great grandma and her brother)

So the two lines are:

You - your parents - your grandparents - your gr grandparents - your 2nd gr grandparents - 3rd gr grandparents

Man - man's parents - man's grandparents - man's gr grandparents - man's 2nd gr grandparents - 3rd gr grandparents.

For each line, count the number of generations SEPARATING each person from the common relative.

For you it is 4 generations (parents-grandparents-grgrand-2ndgrgrand...

For man it is 4 generations

The "cousin number" is the SMALLEST of these two numbers. Since they are both 4, then you are 4th cousins.

The "removed number" is the difference between these two numbers. In this case 4-4=0 or nothing removed

So you are 4th cousins to this man.

Now let's say you have a daughter. For her, she would be 5 generations separated from your 3rd gr grandparents. But the man is still only 4 generations separated.

So the cousin number is still 4 (the smallest of the two numbers) but the removed number is now 5-4 = 1 or once removed.

So your daughter would be 4th cousins once removed with the man.

cousin- duh!

Since you describe an equal parallell relationship to this man (both your's and his great-great-granparents are siblings instead of your great and his great-great, for example) I believe that makes you 4th cousin to this person. That would be 4th cousin even - no "removed" in that (like 4th cousin once removed). I found an on-line chart for such relationships that says, if I read it right, you would be 3rd cousins. Yet, when I draw it out myself, no matter how I figure it, you come out to be 4th cousins. In any event, your assumption of 2nd cousin 2x removed is wrong. I am sure if I am wrong and the online chart I found is right, one of the professionals on here can explain the error of my ways to me.

I never did get the hang of all that "removed" stuff, which to me is a custom from the South.
So, 4 generations ago, they were sister and brother. There children would be cousins (first cousins); their children would be cousins (second cousins) and their children (you and that guy) would be cousins (THIRD cousins...
Genetically, you share 1/16 the same DNA, which is considered "remote" or "insignificant".

Your great grandma and his great grandpa are cousin's.
Their childrens were 2nd cousin. One of them might be your grandma/gerandpa. Same to him.

Yr mom or dad, so is his are 3rd cousin.

And you and him are 4th cousin.

Just say you and him once upon a time had 1 parents.

As salaaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

Insha'Allah, this person is a "distant relative".
