Question:

How can i find my scottish dad?

my dad was a shifty handsome guy who impregnated my mom in 1980. i don't think the name he supplied was a real name as i have searched and searched the internet and come up with nothing. he admitted to using aliases and was probably involved in illegal activity (classy, i know). all i have is a photo of him at the time and a supposed birthdate and the story that he is from a scottish mining town, is catholic, and has many brothers and sisters. what should i do?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I don't really know the best way to go about this, but what I would suggest is making copies of the photograph and post them to schools and possibly police stations in Scottish mining towns, asking if anyone recognises him. Without a name that's the only way you're going to get information, from the people who knew him from teaching him or if he was involved in crime, from the police who may have dealt with him.

Here is a site that deals with some mining town where you might want to start: http://www.mining-villages.co.uk/...
But when it comes to coal you are probably looking for a town in Ayrshire, or possibly the Central Belt (the area between Glasgow and Edinburgh). I will see if I can find anything else.

I live in Scotland and work in a library so email me if you want to ask more questions. I'll do my best.
