crests?

Can anyone recomend a reliable source for finding family shields/crests?

i,m looking for my family name shield. I know we have one, but cannot seem to find it. Most of the sites on line want you to buy it before seeing it.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Everyone wants to charge a fee. What most people want is to see what, if any, heraldry or shield was used by someone in the past with their family name. It is a way of honoring your ancestors and it is decorative. Few people are going to paint it on a shield and carry it into battle. I have seen several versions of coats of arms and most offered for sale are made up in an art studio by the seller. I would like to able to type in the family name and see an authentic copy. So far I have not found such a site, and the one given below is no help either. Nor is the snobby comment about who has the "RIGHT" to use one that was originally given to an ancestor of any help.
