Question:

Who knows the origin of my surname?

It's tiu

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I ran the name through rootsweb family files, and come up with several entries... ranging from Guatemala to China to Phillipines. That does not mean that it does not exist in other places.. those are just "samples".
Most new researchers are unaware that "origin" of a name is very unreliable, in terms of research, often coming down to nothing more than a guessing game. Instead of guessing where it MIGHT have come from, I always suggest that you go the specific route of tracing your lineage, until you find the ancestor who "migrated", and dig up a record of where he/she came FROM. It really isn't as hard as it sounds.
By the way.. if I were to guess... I'd vote for China. My stepfather's surname was Siu, and he was 1/2 Chinese (from his dad), while his mother was born in Norway. The parents met in Montana, USA and married there.
