Question:

Am i of italian descent(sp)?

ok, i read that in the 1800s and in the early 1900s, large numbers of italians immigrated to mexico. My mom is from mexico, her last name is Claudio, which after some research, i found out is an italian last name. i havent asked my grandma, but even if i did, i dont think she would know much.

So my question is...how likely is it that my family is of italian origin.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: While Claudio is found in Italian surnames, its root is latin, and can also be found in Spain, in one form or another.
While I'm not saying that you aren't of Itlaian descent, I am saying that without immigration records, etc, it would be virtually impossible to verify.
Chipilo, a city in Mexico, claims a large Italian heritage. Most of the immigrants there came from northern Italy, most notably Veneto.
All in all, its likely, especially if your mother's family cames form around Chipilo.
