I would like to trace my roots on my father's side?

i've always wanted to know the lineage on my father's side but i have no clue where to start. he along with his family don't know anything about the lineage so basically i'd be starting from scratch. help, please?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The place to start in genealogy is what you know. Get a genealogy program or start a database with the information that you know. Your birth certifiate will give you your father's name if you do not know it.
