Question:

Looking for several surname connections?

I am researching my family history, and I found out that my great grandma was Cherokee. Can any1 give me info on...
Maggie Wilson?
Louizer or Louisa George?
Welch?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I searched in rootsweb's family files and come up with over 1000 entries for the name Maggie Wilson. Which (if any) of these is YOUR Maggie? Is she somehow related to Louisa George that you mention?
The real frustration is that your Maggie could be one of those, and the file might have her entire ancestry back 100 years, with great documentation. The bad news is, without some info from you to identify your ancestor, no one, including you, would recognize it.
One place I use a lot, are the surname specific areas of www.genforum.com. In the Wilson area, someone might know your Maggie, but again.. they would need enough identifying info to be sure which one she is/was, even if only approximate. Name of husband? year of death? place of birth?
As for verifying Cherokee background.. once you have enough basic details of any relative, there are locations where you can check if she (or relatives) were included on any of the known Cherokee records, like the Dawes rolls. There are others. There are many Native Americans who were never enrolled, but that doesn't mean you can't find evidence that backs up the family information.
I wish I could help more.
