Opinions and advice?

There is a man who did research on one branch of my family tree, and managed to get the family geneology back to the 10th century. The only problem is that he lives in Munich, Germany and I have never met him. He managed to break through the 17th century barrior I never managed to get through. Doyou think it would it be okay to try and get that information from him, I can speak German so it wouldn't be much of language problem, what would do?
