Curious. The blacks in US and Europe seems to have christian sounding last name? How did it derive?

Not a racist but am curious.

For the blacks in US and Europe, they have christian names like Powell, Jones, Lewis...etc. Just wondering, how did they have the first name? was it from the past slavery legacy?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: IN US, after civil war, many blacks took the name of their former owners. Before that they weren't allowed last names.
