Question:

Of all the people who visit archives, about what % are there to find genealogy information?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The number is actually less than half. The reading room, where the genealogists work, is predominantly full of genealogy researchers. But there are other rooms that are devoted to things like federal bankruptcy records, federal court registers, federal personnel files, etc. These are heavily visited, just not for long visits. Most of the visitors are there for record pickups, especially lawyers and credit companies. If you actually check the sign-in sheets you'll find a period from 8-9 and 12-1 where the genealogists are signing in for the day. But then there are 200-400 other signatures on the guest register that are there for other records.
