Trying to find when my ggrandfather died?

his name alfred j bull i dont know if he left or divorced my ggrandmother or left her a widow, he was born 1888 the last child he had to my ggrandmother was born in 1923 assuming the child was his, death must of been after this can anybody help been searching for months

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Depends on where you are. In the US, social security started in the 1930's, and they have files on those who applied for benefits (which does NOT include everyone). Their death index online is only the computerized section, which starts in the early 1960's.
This is where knowing the siblings sometimes will pay off, if you can verify when/where they died... and find an obit. Or, his parents... if his mom died in 1952, you check to see if he is listed a survivor. How much contact do you have with descendents of his siblings? Men sometimes "lose" themselves deliberately to the wife/children, but maintain contact with the birth family. Depending on the county, you can search the court records for a possible divorce.
