Question:

Trying to trace back a coroner report and police records 60 years ago.?

I live in Australia and i am trying to gather information about my relatives. I need a coroners reports and police record of a person 60 years ago in 1943 for South Australia - How would I go about it, I am undertaking personal research - thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If memory serves, the coroners in Australia hold inquests into deaths. Those are considered court procedings. So the question becomes who archives records for South Australia? I did some snooping and found that the records are microfilmed all the way back to 1834. You can find more on these two sites:

The only way to get police reports is to file a request for release of the information from the police department. If you're lucky the police report is part of the coroner's inquest, but I don't know how likely that is.

I hope this helps a little...
