How can I search for my ancestors which are Cherokee Indians?

My GreatGrandfather is full blood Cherokee Indian ,he married my GreatGrandmother who was French.My Grandfather always told us that his mother was a Princess of thier tribe. I can't recall which tribe but I know they decended from Oklahoma,my grandpa would always speak the Indian language when he got mad . I'm looking for any information on the Peterson name. Any information would be appreciated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Check with the Mormons. As a religious orginization, they are oppessed with ancestory. Your's mine and anyone else they can find. You can also try with the Cherokee Tribal Councle, I'm not sure what their addy is.
