Question:

Origin of name 'Kaurin'??

Unfortunately no one knows where my families surname originates from or from which lingual group its from. Ive hear a lot of people say its Turkish and some say its Scandinavian.

Looking at the composition, does anyone have any idea where its from?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It seems to be Norwegian. Several people with that surname entering into the US were from Norway. The Turkish connection may have something to do with the following:

"Over half a millennium under Muslim rule, the Orthodox Christians, known as ??rayah??, or ??kaurin??, unbelievers, by the Turks and Muslim populations, were regarded as second-class citizens but were tolerated."

Maybe some people adopted (or were given) the surname to mark them in this way.
