Question:

I think I have Pocahontas in my family, but having trouble with the Benjamin Bolling relation.?

Can anyone help me with the exact line. I do feel I'm the16th great granddaughter of hers, but I have problems with Benjamin Bolling. Some say he is directly related to Pocahontas and others say he's not.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'm guessing this is the Benjamin Bolling/Bowling about whom you search:

Major Benjamin Bolling (AKA Bowling )Born: 30 JUN 1734 Wilkes County, North Carolina
Died: 20 JAN 1832 Flat Gap, Virginia
Father: Major John Bolling b. 20 Jan 1699/1700 d. 6 SEP 1757
Mother: Elizabeth Bland Blair b. 4 APR 1713 d. 22 APR 1775

Spouse: Pattie Phelps b. 1737 d. 8 MAR 1767
Married: 20 JUN 1753 Albermarle County, Virginia

If so, here is his father's pedigree: http://www.hoopesonline.com/hoopes_famil...

I have seen quite a few people also placing Benjamin's place of birth (with the same date) as Virginia and Massachusetts. Funny how that momma could travel so many places in one day in labor before the advent of helicopters or airplanes.

I don't know the total answer to all the mystery about him, but I do know this (and trust it). When his monument was erected, this was the inscription:

Benjamin 1734-1832 First Settler in Area Born Wilkes Co., N.C. Son of Major John Boiling and Elizabeth Blah. Wed first To Patsy Phelps and then To Charity Larrimore
Boiling."

Take that to heart....it stands over his grave.
