Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Are they buried in England, if they are , the first thing to do is find out if your grandparents are buried in a "common grave". If they are then there is not much chance of you putting a memorial on it. It actually belongs to the council who run the cemetery and always will remain their plot. The common grave is the burial place of paupers in most cases, my great grandparents are buried in one of these, I wanted an headstone or some other sort of memorial, but I couldn't get one for them. If your grandparents are buried in the lawn section of the cemetery then you can't put a kerb stone around the grave, it has to remain flat for the purpose of mowing the grass. You can erect an headstone in line with all the others on the lawn section, but nothing more. Hope that helps you, good luck Diane.
