How do I even start with doing my ancestry?

I just recently wanted to start doing a family tree to see who was in my family and the history of my family. Where do I even start? I can't use ancestry.com because you have to pay and I don't have any money to do that. Where's a free website where I could find that kind of stuff? Give me some ideas/tips please. Thanks.
