Question:

What is Llanfourt? Or What does it Mean? Wales/Welsh?

I am doing my family tree, any way on the 1881 census it states that Elizabeth Browne (nee Taylor) was born Llanfourt, Montmouthshire, yes I know they mean Monmouthshire.
On the 1891 and the 1901 it states that she was born in Blaenavon, which I have found out is in Abergavenny.
Elizabeth Taylor was born 1851 and marreid to Frank Browne in June 1876 in Kingston, Surrey.

So what I am asking is what does Llanfourt mean?

And where was she on the 1851, 1861 and the 1871 censusWhen her name was Elizabeth Taylor.
Many Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This is probably an old or incorrect spelling of Llanfoist in Monmouthshire. Spelling was not very consistent in old census records.

The 1861 census shows an Elizabeth Taylor, born around 1851, living at Llanboist (another spelling variation!) in Blaenavon, Abergavenny with parents Samuel and Alice, and sisters Alice Jane, Sarah Ann and Harriet.

The family are still there in 1871, with a few additional children - Eadeth, Francis, Haldred, Mary and William. Elizabeth is not there. My guess is that by this time she had gone into service, the most usual thing for young unmarried women.

I've tried to find her in Surrey, but with no success.

Hope this is the family you are researching.

Good luck.
