Question:

Does anyone know anything about Mary, Lena Maud, James or Robert Clark, children of Steve & Arminta Clark?

They were all born in Vermilion County, IN, between 1883 and 1896. Whatever happened to them? Did they marry? Did they have children? Lena Maud married Ben McIntire and had 3 children. Her daughter Iona is my grandmother. Whatever happened to Maud's siblings?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Your best resource will be the Indiana State Library. They have the records of all births, marriages and deaths for every county indexed and filmed.

Here's the collection of marriages they have for Vermillion Co: http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/isl/in...

This is the link to their full collection: http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/isl/wh...

The best part of the State Library in Indiana is that on Wednesdays they have volunteers from the DAR to assist patrons. These volunteers have access to the DAR library and databases, which for many in Indiana is a very good thing indeed. The main reason is that after the War of 1812, the US wasn't able to pay many of the bounties they owed returning soldiers. So instead of money, they gave them land bounties in Indiana. That's why there are so many people in Indiana with ancestry back to the Revolution via NC, VA and PA.

Also, a sad note. Someone on Vermillion Co Rootsweb graciously scanned the marriage index from 1882-1920. But everything is missing pre-"Clifton". You missed it by one page. But it does show that the index exists in some form, just not online.

I have great luck calling County Clerks asking if they have marriage or death records on a given person or group of people. As many have told me, it's their job to be there all day, everyday answering questions like this. If you ask nicely, they'll look up records for you, call you back with the info, then send you copies of the records they've found. It might really be worth the call down there to see what they have for these children.

Good luck and happy hunting.
