Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hi Melissa, I see you're in Australia, are your Rose's related to one of the early Australian families (Thomas ROSE came to Australia 1793, their home, "Rose Cottage", is the oldest timber house in Australia, and is preserved in Wilberforce Australiana Pioneer Village)? My mother is related to that family, and I have a little bit of Rose research. Someone mentioned Worldconnect, there are several other people researching the family on there. Feel free to e-mail me if you have a connection to the Sydney Rose's. Good luck.

I've just found a link to a great site about the family:

Also, genesreunited.co.uk is a fantastic site, you can search for free, but to contact people you need to be a member. But membership is only AU$20, and you can pay by Australia Money Order and send it to an Australian address, which is a lot better than the majority of genealogy sites. It is an English site, which is another plus, as a lot of other sites are maily for the US, so you have to sort through all the unrelated American families to get the one you want. I have found heaps of my relaives on this site.

Edit (again :-) ) Here is a reply I did for another post, relating to Australian BDM records on the internet, there are a few free sites there (unfortunately the VIC one is paid, but still quite cheap):

Each state has it's own bmd site, some have a database online, some don't.

NSW (the best site): http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyhistory/...

QLD Doesn't currently have a database online, but has plans to do so in the near future, so keep an eye out for that.

VIC (used to be free, but now they charge$0.99 to view each result):
http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/servlet...

WA:
http://www.justice.wa.gov.au/_apps/pione...

ACT, NT, SA, TAS: No searchable database that I know of.
