Question:

Searching for a half-sister... what's the best way to do this properly?

I found out not so long ago that before my father married my mother, he fathered a baby girl who was put up for adoption. She was born in Queensland Australia in 1967 or 1968 and was named "Michelle".
I just want to know... does anybody know how I can start my search for her?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: First, get as much information as possible from your father, as difficult as it may be. See if he is willing to tell you the mother's name and if he knows the date of birth.

There are registeries that may help you as well. Try http://www.aican.org/ which is Australia specific. Who knows, the girl's mother may be looking as well (or may have never placed the child for adoption as your father was led to believe) and the two of you may end up working together to find your sister. There is also http://www.familieslost.com/ and http://www.isrr.net/ that may help you

Good luck in your search. I'm an adoptee and I know how difficult it can be to locate your birth family.
