they probably started in Virgina and Maryland Plus I am wanting to find my Family History It is Really important to me!!

Your first roadblock is in assuming that all Stephensons would be one family, and by finding the "one" who MAYBE started in Virginia, you are related to that person. The ONLY reliable way to work YOUR family history, is to start with your parents. Assuming your dad is the Stephenson, don't forget that your mom was from another family before she married. Learn about them, and start collecting documents to verify what you have. Next to the grandparents- you have 4 of those, meaning 4 different family names. After identifying them, you'll move to the next generation.
This is how you GUARANTEE that you are working the "right" history, by building the tree, a step at a time. In the process, you will learn that each one is individual... what records relate to them (and where to find that record) will be unique for each of them. For example.. you will use a different document for a relative born in Calif in 1950, compared to a ancestor born in Maryland in the 1800's, or Virginia in the 1700's. That's the fun of it.
