Question:

What is the family pedigree of the people in "Nijmegen riddle"?

I need to draw family pedigree of them.

http://www.noviomagus.nl/prenten/p100.ht...

That site has the riddle and this explanation:

The explanation of the riddle:
Huybert, the old man, marries as his first wife Anna, a widow who already had a son called Gijsbert from her previous marriage, and together they get the two sons in red, Adam en Arent. When this woman dies, Huybert marries as his second wife another widow, called Beel, who already had a daughter called Jacomijn from her previous marriage, and together they get the two sons in green, Bartel en Barent. Meanwhile, the son from the previous marriage of the first wife (Gijsbert) marries the daughter of the previous marriage of the second wife (Jacomijn), and they get a daughter named Charlotte - who later becomes the third wife of the old man, and together they get the two young sons in white, named Casper en Coenraet.

Any help would be appreciated!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Oy. Are you allowed to repeat people within a pedigree? 'Cause if not, you kinda need three dimensions for this one...

The other difficulty is how to convey the diagram here: it uses a proportional font and eats whitespace, so ASCII art doesn't work.

My solution involves having Huybert appear three times in the tree.
The top row has the following people:

Huybert===Anna===Anna's first husband ... Beel's first husband===Beel===Huybert

There are vertical lines going down from each set of ===; the outer two of these then split into two (to indicate siblings). These lines connect to the following names:

Adam Arent Gijsbert===Jacomijn Bartel Barent

Again, there is a vertical line coming down from the ===, which connects to Charlotte in the next row:

Charlotte===Huybert

And the final vertical line splits into two and connects to:

Casper Coenraet

It might be possible to do it without repeats as a three-pointed star centered on Hujbert, but then the line connecting Gijsbert and Jacomijn would have to be pretty long and curvy. Balls and sticks might work (3-D).
