How can I trace a relative who lived in New York. Dont know where he is now.?

My relative is the only member of his family alive. His father Mother and sister all died in New York. HIs name is Thomas Shannon. His father was John Shannon. He was in the American Army. They moved to America from Belfast, Ireland before 195O. Thomas would be around 58. I would love to get in touch with him. Any help would be appreciated.
