Question:

I need to find the louisiana 1870 census?

to find my great-grandmother

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You would be able to find the 1870 US Federal Census which would include Lousiana at either Ancestry.com or HeritageQuest (often in public libraries). Both sites require that you pay so you may want to find someone who can do the looking up for you for starters.

You could also try the Louisana GenWeb site which is part of a worldwide organization of free genealogy sites , I've put its url in the sources box. A quick look didn't indicate any direct census records that could be accessed but there may well be other material that would be useful to you. This state site is only the "top" of the search, many of the Parishes will have their own Genweb site which will have more specific material. If you know more details on your grandmother including a town or parish in Louisiana someone might be able to help.

Good luck.
