He would have returned to Norway around 1945-1948 from Chicago. I've never met him, he's my paternal grandfather.

The other thing you can try is contacting the Center for Scandinavian Studies at North Park University in Chicago. They're a wonderful resource for doing research in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, including genealogy work.
