Question:

Who is walt whiteman?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You can accept the wikipedia cut & paste answer you see above but I'll give you my personal take on Walt Whitman.

Whitman was a nineteenth century American poet. He is best known for poems like "Song of Myself" and "I Sing the Body Electric." There are many rumors floating around that he was a homosexual. It's easy to see why: he was never married, never had a girlfriend, and many of his poems address the male anatomy in an intimate way.

Whitman was a big part of the Transcendentalist movement and his works are often lumped into the category of American Romanticism. Specifically, some refer to it as "light romanticism" because it is a sharp contrast to the "dark romantic" works of Hawthorne, Melville and Poe.

On a personal note, I enjoy reading "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking" and "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry." Those are two of my favorite Whitman poems. Although it is often difficult to play favorites when it comes to a great poet like Whitman.
