Question:

I am looking for the grave of ANNE DALRYMPLE CRAWFORD, who died in 1995 in a flood in Houston, Tx.?

Does anyone know about this or tell me where I can find out. I have contacted the Houston Coroner's Office, but they doubted there would be any record.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If it was a natural disaster, the American Red Cross unit in Houston would have some records. They are responsible for helping find the next of kin...and to the best of my knowledge they archive every detail of every disaster they work.

The next step would be to pull her death certificate. That would be at the County Clerk's office and it won't tell you reams of info, but it will give you many clues and tell you if she was buried at all. Many times the bodies are too badly decomposed and they end up cremated.

Coroners won't be able to release much. Even if they had records, they would have been sent to the State Archives after 10 years.

The State Library will have clipping files on it and you'll be able to view all of the published information about the incident. That would be the most consolidated source of info.

When all else fails, call the Houston Chronicle, ask for the archivist. Tell him/her that you're doing a research project and need records on Anne D. Crawford who died in the flood of 1995. They can copy everything from their records (usually a dollar a page) and mail them to you. Just don't go there first because they may be the slowest to respond.
