Question:

I have a brickwall. Maybe someone can help.?

One of my great grandfathers was John Clark(e) Tomlin. He married Roxie Catherine Jackson in Montgomery County, Alabama in 1879. In 1880 they are censusd in Dooleys, Montgomery County, Alabama. It shows his father was born in North Carolina and he and his mother in Georgia. It appears his year of birth was 1857 or 1858. John and Roxie had one child, Roy Laitten Tomlin born June 29, 1881. No other children. He died when Roy was a small boy. Now, I already belong to Ancestry.Com, Genealogy.Com. So far I haven't made any connection. We had an oral history that John had a brother named, Henry. There were some interesting things we knew about Henry and I am in contact with one of his granddaughters. However, she is also at a brickwall.
My grandfather, Roy, had 5 sons and you would think there would be a lot of Y dna to check, but the sons had a tendency to have daughters. Actually he has 2 grandsons and neither of them have sons. Thought maybe I should try Y/A

I know who my grandparents are. But I don't know who John Clark(e) Tomlin's parents were. The 1880 census shows the place of birth of the parents of each person being enumerated but it doesn't show their names.

I know great grandmother Roxie's family history and definitely Roy's. It is John Clark(e)Tomlin's ancestors I do not know. That is where the brickwall is. Roxie remarried a James Conner and had two children.
There is no mystery there.
John Clark(e) had a brother named Henry but neither his granddaughter or I know who their parent were. I am being trying to find out for years. My grandfather was died from burns in an oil refinery explosion when my father was 13. So I never knew my grandfather. My grandmother knew hardly nothing about the Tomlins but
it seems she mentioned that John and Henry's father was killed in the Civil War. She stated a lot of Tomlins from Georgia were died during that war. I have checked records and indeed they did.

John died when Roy who was born in 1881 was very small. It was probably in Montgomery or Macon County, Alabama. The reason I also indicated Macon County as when Roxie remarried in 1888, it was in the home of her father, I. F. Jackson in Macon County.

John died before 1888.
