It does not just involve asking your parents. It can involve interviewing relatives, researching documents and on the internet, searching microfilm or microfishe records, checking your families photoalbums, learning the stories your family told about its origins, its members, the wars, immigration, the old days, DNA studies, gedcoms posted by others distantly related to you, emailing cousins, meeting new branches of your family, learning the truth or why you are not suppose to know something.
