Question:

Can anybody give me a credible genealogy website.?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For most purposes Ancestry.com is great back till about 1850. The have every US census until 1930 but from 1850-1930 are the more useful. Before that the census only lists head of household. They also have select birth, death, and marriage data, as well as ,passenger lists, immigrations lists, obits, and much more. There are also some international records especially British and Irish. On the bad side they are expensive and some records can be hard to find based on errors in the original documents. Ancestry is tied to rootsweb.com which is free, but are tree posted by people and their info can often times be wrong, can be a good place to start. Usgenweb.com can also have some handy U.S. info including the U.S. Tombstone project. It is free but on a volunteer basis and can be slow getting to some things. There are a lot of family specific sites out there. You would be surprised what you can find just putting names into to a search engine, but remember alot of people are going off family stories passed down, that are not always right, but they can be a good thing to point you in the right direction. Good Luck.

PS. Ancestry.com has a free trial so you can try it. It is 14 days and gives you access to everything, but don't forget to cancel in times if you don't want to be charged.
