Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The best are Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com. The best way to use them is through your public library system. Most larger systems (like if your county has a town bigger than 2000 people) subscribe to one or the other of these programs. Heritage Quest will allow you to access their site for free from home if you sign on through your library's portal.

Ancestry.com is a wonderful program, too. But they only allow free access from the library's own computers, and only if the library paid for a public access license. But check with your local library to see what's available to you for free.

Otherwise, pay the $30+ per month for your own subscription to Ancestry.com.

Just accept this caveat...don't take anybody else's tree at face value as being true. Recheck every last detail they give you.
