Question:

Career in genealogy?

I am fascinated with where people came from and how they are today. I love looking at one person with blonde hair and blue eyes and then another person with brown hair and brown eyes and figuring out where they came from, their heritage, and the science behind why people look the way they do.
I find it so interesting that certain ethnic groups (such as African, Irish, Asian...) have different physical appearances and features. I don't know if this is what the study of genealogy is, but from my research I think it is. I'm more interested in where peoples' ancestors came from centuries ago, and how it influences the person living in the 21st century. Just why everybody looks the way they do, I guess. Please, if anyone has any insight on what this field is called, if it isn't genealogy and there is one, and/or suggestions on how to pursue it. I am of college age, so that is why I am so determined to find out what my interest is called. Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It sounds like you could study genetics if you wanted to know say where the chromosomes that make body types are located. Now it is possible to test different people's genes to find out what their children might be like

The Centre for Genetic Anthropology
Departments of Anthropology and of Biology,
University College London goes with what you describe http://www.ucl.ac.uk/tcga/

eugenics is the study of beneficial human genetics with an emphasis on creating better humans
theriogenology is the veterinary study of breeding better animals
Paleogenetics http://www.scheringstiftung.de/html/p200... traces genes that create body types known as phenotypes through time from different species up to people

I'd go with eugenics You could get research grants to go on dates
