Question:

I'm trying to find relative that may have grown up in the New York are. My father was named Michael Mindzak.

He was born in 1924 the youngest of 7 children. His father was named Stephan and his wife came over from Czechloslovakia. Any info would help I have tried Ancestry and other sites. Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: switchboard.com has one Mindzak listing in NY State, but others in other states. Phone or write the NY person and/or the others. SSDI shows that others moved to OH & NJ, so check those states out too. I used familysearch.org for SSDI (use advanced search, exact spelling, surname only) but there's also rootsweb.com and ancestry.com to check out.

I should note that the 1930 Census shows a Michael that age as son of George & Mary (born PA), and that George said consistently that he was born about 1883 Vienna (Wien), Austria; also that he immigrated 1900.

1920 has a separate widow Julia Mindziak age 54 who says she immigrated 1910 from Austria.
