Question:

Info on how counties were divided in the Little Rock Area?

Does anyone have any information how counties were divided in the mid1800s thru the early 1900s in the little rock area? I was told my great grandparents were married on an indian reservation just outside of Little Rock but i can't find any reservations in AR. Also, if you have any info on Whitehall, Abbeville in SC ( I know Whitehall isn't in Abbeville but it seems to have been during the 1880 census) or what area it is now I'd love to hear it.
thanks for the info.

Lucretia
By the way, my family's surname is Donnelly aka donaly or Dannaly

You cannot get into US genealogy without this book! Pulaski County starts big but within a few decades, by 1890, has been cut down to about today's size. Indian Territory is off to the west, what will become OK. In 1820 Pulaski was so large it did extend into IT.

So. There was no reservation just outside Little Rock, that would have been a good ride away. Which is not to say that there may not have been an enclave nearby.

Your library will have the book but you cannot check it out. Get one! You'll be grabbing it all the time.

The other handiest thing you will need is a good map. I rely on mapquest.com often to learn what county some place is in. To tell you how handy these two are together, I've seen a family settle 1790s up to 1860s be in 4 different counties and never moved the farm. What's this good for?

In that now-distant from me State I looked for the will of the man who died 1849 in the latter 2 counties and it came down to -- he either had no will or it had been destroyed in some of the moves or some disaster. WRONG. I got lucky. In County #2's unsorted old junk in a nasty old room in the courthouse my thumb fell on the name of one of his sons as I picked one by one through scraps of paper. I found it! (I have no idea why there unless he died visiting a brother or sister)
