Question:

Origin of last name Dion?

I know its French, Greek, but is it Mexican? I heard it was?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Most Dions in North America are French-Canadian and trace back to Jean Guyon/Dion and Mathurine Robin who arrived in Quebec in June, 1634. It's estimated that there are more than 2 million descendents of this couple...I'm one of them :-)

As for "is it Mexican"...yes and no. It's not a Spanish name, but for several years the French controlled part of Mexico...and many French-Canadians migrated west through the Great Lakes and south into the old Louisiana Territory (aka Louisiana Purchase). Many intermarried with women where they migrated to and had children who were raised Mexican but had a French surname.
