Question:

Iceni genes and present day Norfolkians?

Neil Oliver on the programme providing a genetic map of Britain stated that most of the East Anglians have Anglo-Saxon genes - which if the science is correct, has been confirmed.

But many East Anglians would like to claim a genetic link with the Iceni - is this just wishful thinking on their part? Were the iceni Celtic or pre-celtic, britions moved west - is there any genetic link between East Anglians and the Iceni?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The Iceni were one of the English Celtic tribes, situated vaguely near London (at least, near enough for Boudicca to rampage to London.) They were there for the Roman invasion, so definitely of the Celtic time period.

There's a good chance that there was some level of intermarriage with the Anglians, as I believe the tribe was still around by the time of the Anglian invasions, but I don't have any information showing a definitive link between the two.
