Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Call the police department, file the complaint and let them lead you through the process as they investigate. It's a federal felony and it is taken very seriously. But don't start doing things you can't undo (like closing bank accounts when they probably don't have that number) until the police tell you to do it.

My husband had his identity stolen 2 years ago. It took 3 months for it to shake out, but the culprit was caught (in Pennsylvania) and prosecuted by federal prosecutors. It turned out they were part of a group who were stealing info from wireless laptops as they drove past. Lucky us. But it taught a great lesson about how to covet your privacy.
