Question:

I would like to trace my heritage but am no sure which way would be the best?

I have grandparents who were Indians and unsure if they even had a birth certificate. Has someone been successful at this and if so, how did you go about it?

If American Indian, find out which from which tribe and sometimes you might be able to find some government documentation. For instance: if the government had moved them to a school , etc.

Other than that, I'm not sure. Like you mentioned there might not be any documentation.
