Question:

Any expert on genetic genealogy?

I would like to know the ethnic origin of my paternal last name. I am Italian from the South, but I strongly suspect to have Jewish blood. I have investigated some sites on the net and I do not think they are up to the task.

One offers to do a 44Y level search on my father. It is costly and, even if I am willing to pay, I think they want YOU to compare the results against their extensive database, something I doubt I will be able to do.

Another web site gives you your tribal "probable" origin, but their search goes only 20 levels deep (on both mother and father), and is only a "probability".

What do you suggest?

Thank you very much.

Family Tree DNA -Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.

at the last email address they also have a surname database library where you can check your name
It is a very simple test that requires the person to rub a swab, from the test kit they send you, on the inside of your cheek cap it up and mail it back to them in the mailer they provide. Testing is done by the University of Arizona. As a part of the test they will also check for the Jewish gene and the Attila the Hun gene. As far as comparing results its quite easy because you will have a unique sample number and password and only those people who match you will be listed. I did it and have discovered a large number of new cousins. The whole process is simple and easy. Family Tree is the best DNA program and their test will answer all of your questions and tell you things you didn't know before.
