Question:

How do you get birth and death certificates in the UK?

and do you need proof of being related? I am looking for ones from 1600s and down

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You cant get a birth ,marriage or death certificate prior to 1837 this is when registration began in this country, prior to that everything was documented in parish records mainly. You can buy any kind of certificate and normally you do not need proof as to who you are, but you do have to fill in a section on the application form that asks what your relationship is to the person who you have named in the application form., you will also need to inform the registrars clerk why you need the certificate I think theres a tick box for family history purchase. Hope this helps you.
