You cannot view any life event certificate on line or any where else. You cannot even go into a registry office and ask if you can look before you buy sort of thing that's why it's best to get as much information as possible from what ever source you use before you order.
I am pretty sure the price of a certificate is ⣷:00 from the area registry office, ordered in person or phone orders for these you don't need the GRO registration numbers. You can find the registry office from the BMD registers on www.ancestry.co.uk. If you order from the GRO as you have been advised, a certificate order without the GRO information would cost you ⣱0:00 with the GRO numbers it will cost you ⣸:50. It can take quite a while to order from the GRO. They do have a priority service where as if you order before 4pm on any day they will despatch your order the following day. Its not cheap though. With GRO details ⣲4:50 without ⣲7:50. I really hope this helps you, good luck.
I noticed that Lawrence was born in the Jan/Feb/Mar quarter of 1901, the census for that year was taken Sunday 31st March 1901. So I did a search of the census using Lawrence's name as my research marker. I found him registered as being 2 months old and living with his parents John W Mosson aged 29 born abt 1872 and his mum Alice E Mosson aged 20 born abt 1881, Alice was born in Gresley in Derbyshire and John in Urmston Lancs. Their address was 19 Lorne Grove, Barton Upon Irwell. It was quite normal in those days for names and ages to get changed by the enumerator filling in the form hope this helps you.
