Question:

How can I find my ancestry?

I have this family history project in Social Studies and I want to know how I can find my family tree on the internet. My Aunt has the book about our family but she lives 1,000 miles away from me and its very delicate. So we can't use that. All I know about my family is im related to Al Capone and to this one guy who was the oldest guy to join the military. I just want a simple online family tree. Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well there is not always a gaurantee that you will find published genealogies. Or that the parts that you do find will connect with the famous people.

All of the answers will be the same. Start with your parents. Ask them anything and all that they can remember. Go to ancestry.com, rootsweb and the Latter Day Saints site. If say your grandfather or what not was from a small town you can post on a message board about the name.

Each little bit of info will lead to another. A good place for near in is the social security death index...... for say if you know where your grandfather or whatnot died. It will tell you alot. There are many, many things you can do.... easily. But you need to give more detail.

And as far as the aunt..... delicate? Whatever the issue you are asking about family history. If she has issue with your family she might even be helpful to make a point.

Call any and all relatives that you could think of. People like to talk and can often lead you to someone you might never have thought of calling. Phone time often works better than the net. Once you get some info that way go back on the net. Often people suddenly find more info than they could possibly put together.

Get at least something and email me and I may be able to better lead you in the right direction. You will find people who do genealogy are an amazingly helpful bunch.
