Question:

Another question about naturalizaton?

So per Genevieve my gggrandmother would have become an American citizen upon marrying American citizen. Now when my gggrandparents immigrated my gggrandmother was pregnant. They had with them a son, apparently born in Prussian Poland, then another son was born a few months after my gggrandfahter died.

I know the one born in New Orleans in 1853 would be an American Citizen. However, would the young son that immigrated with them have to go through naturalilzaton proceedings to be an American Citizen? If he served in the U. S. military would he have become an American Citizen? Oral family history is he served in the Union Army? The family moved to Travis County, Texas and it was pro union during the Civil War.
