Question:

What does the surname Tsotras mean?

I have to find out for an assignment i've tried the library and every website I can find .Do you know its a greek surname.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: (It does sound like a greek surname, anyway).
Watch: The word tsotra in greek is the turkish 㧯tra,
which comes from the romanian ciutura,
which comes from the italian ciotola,
which comes from the latin cotyla,
which comes from the ancient greek 🏄𛎷,
meaning a water pot (from wood, mostly).
This cyclic phenomenon is called reborrowing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/reborrowing... .

edit: Since you asked about the meaning of the surname, I answered only that. Also, quantity is not quality: you cannot consider a source as accurate when it just copies a list of words from another site. Notice that in every site you can find the word Dalavere after 㧯tra... (And did anyone say that water pot is glamorous as a meaning?)

Tsotras is the greek-ized form of the word, and as you may observe, all the first names in the list given by the answerer below are greek. At that time many Greeks lived in Turkey, but this is another matter.
