it was a company that my family must have had a claim in because i was going throuh some ancestory records and found a very old stock cert. in it. i have looked all over the internet but cannot find anything about it.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: One of my search tips using google is to put quotation marks around the words... in this case, I did not hit anything with "knights prairie coal". So, I took out the word coal, and come up with a location of Knights Prairie in Hamilton co, Illinois. My question is to look carefully at the certificate to see if there is any indication of where it might have been.
From there, I'd go to www.usgenweb.com, click to the state, and click to the county. Many of the county sites have local history background. If not on that site, you can try sending an email to the site owner, OR see if the site has any contact information for the local library.
