Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Birth certificates didn't exist back then. It's possible that the town might have kept a register of births, but highly unlikely in either Hungary or Russia. It is possible, though, that there's either a church or a synagogue that would have registered the birth, as that was the norm in Eastern Europe at the time. BUT...if it was registered in a synagogue, you're back to there being a problem with the record still existing. The Russians were quite good at erasing evidence that a Jew ever existed in their country. If he was Orthodox or Lutheran, it's possible that the records do exist, but you'll need to find the town of his birth before you'll be able to locate them.

Hungary was not part of Germany. Instead, it was part of the Empire of Austria-Hungary. Germany didn't unify until 1871. By the time she was born, the two were not only distinct countries, but they weren't fond of each other, either (and boy that's an understatement).

You'll need to search for passenger records, immigration and naturalization records, etc. The marriage license was in all probability from Britain. So search the BMD records there. Most importantly, see if you can find an obituary for either Oscar/Samuel or Antonia. That will probably give you the most clues for your search.
