Question:

How can I find where/when my ancestors were in the service?

I'm working on my genealogy.. and am wondering if there is a site that I can go, enter my ancestor's name, and come up with their service info, such as where/when, what wars they were in, etc... any help would be greatly apreciated! thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Call your local library system and ask if they subscribe to a genealogy service like Ancestry.com or HeritageQuest. Both will allow you to use the library's computers to look up all sorts of records, including military service, for free. Many times there's also a portal that allows you to sign into the services through the library's website to do the lookups. Again, all free and very extensive databases.
