Question:

I'm making a christening gown for new grandson. Have read about putting child's name on it. Where to put it?

My daughter wants this to be a family heirloom. We've read that the name of each child christened in the gown should be embroidered on it. Do we put first, middle, and surname? Do we put a date too? If so, birth date or christening date? Where do we put the first child's name and where do additional names go? Since I am handmaking it, should my name and the date go on as well? Has anyone seen an heirloom christening gown personalized like this?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: My mother in-law made my grandsons gown the name went near the hem. She said that way if the gown was to be shared by other siblings/next generation they could be added in a circle around the hem.
